If you suffer from varicose veins, you’re not alone. Many patients today walk around and live with leg pain, leg heaviness/fatigue, and/or swollen legs not realizing that this is likely due to a treatable condition. This grossly under-recognized condition is known as venous insufficiency, or simply “bad veins.” By the age of 60, over 70% of women and over 40% of men will have advanced venous insufficiency.

Many patients believe that this is a simple cosmetic condition and seek no treatment at all or seek procedures such as sclerotherapy which only provides short-term results and does not address the actual true culprit—bad veins which allow blood to constantly pool in the legs. In the past, vein stripping was the only solution.

Cardiovascular Association is now offering a much less invasive procedure which takes 30-45 minutes to perform, is done in the office and is covered by insurance. Through a small incision in the leg, these bad veins are ablated from the inside with very little to no recovery time and again, no stitches necessary. Cardiovascular Association is excited to be able to offer this treatment modality to their patients.
